Rosella Tolfree is female, and her ovaries cannot produce eggs. This is how it is for all cloned human females because they lack a uterus because of the “glitch” and the epigenetics involved.

She is also a clone of her father, and she has epigenetics effects that cause more masculine effects. For example, as a newborn, she was less responsive to auditory and social stimuli, which is considered a male trait. She exhibits "boyish" traits, including flexible clothing options and a tendency to eat rotten food on a dare. As sexual attraction goes, she’s indifferent. Sexual attraction isn’t about obtaining a mate in her time, but more about having simple sex.

Father’s Day Celebrations

But the oddest thing is Rosella doesn’t celebrate Father’s Day despite having a dad. Many people don’t in her time.

She celebrates Mother’s Day instead. Which is unusual for people in her period, as many don’t even bother with each holiday. This is because Rosella has always seen her father as her mother since realizing she was his clone as a teenager. As a young kid she called him “dad,” but once she discovered that she was his clone she started to call him “mǔqīn” which is Chinese for mother. Only later once he had died did she return to referring to him as “Dad”, but even so would not celebrate Father’s day, only Mother’s day.

The social death of these celebrations is not a simple matter, as there are many complex reasons behind it. For instance, socially they relate to society's shift into space, the increasing female-to-male gender ratio on Earth, human cloning via advanced IV and CRISPR technologies, and the philosophical recognition of fatherhood and motherhood strictly as a social construct of rules and obligations.

This change had a large legal impact, as it removed any biological issues concerning child custody and support. During the turn of the Second Age of Humanity, many men in the U.S. were glad to see the legal changes, as now they were free from serving time for unpaid child support. Courts would implicate instead another man, who was with the woman at the time and posed as the father. Unmarried women were then required to prove that they were not acting as fathers to their children.

Quickly in society, the whole concept of motherhood and fatherhood was becoming obsolete. After all, human children were being seen as a manufactured product.

With the A-4 Android, the social roles of parenting became even more antiquated. People began viewing children as something to bring joy and pleasure, as well as social benefits, like higher UBI payments. Legally, though, A-4 Androids in the U.S. were never seen as mothers of the children they created despite being required to fulfill all the social roles.

As for gender…

Gender became a pure social construct in the 1970s because of social changes such as the repeal of anti-homosexuality laws and increased female workforce participation. A new scientific way to look at these issues was needed by sociology and using the term gender as a social construct fit the bill.

By Rosella’s time, the political issues surrounding gender were resolved. This happened in the late First Age of Humanity when issues about pronoun use fell apart as acceptance faded after people used indefinite pronouns to describe themselves such as “one” and “nobody.” This usage coincided with special political interests in the U.S. and Europe moving away from transgender issues into bariatric surgery and species alteration for children (the process of physically altering a child to look like certain animals such as a cat or dog).

Worse was that a considerable proportion of mid-life depression and identity crisis issues occurred in society because of children being mis-gendered earlier in life. This was because of lax medical standards during those times. Soon, the psychological and medical community realized that gender is truly a union of both biology and social constructs. Sociologists concurred with this opinion. Society changed how it approached "gender affirming care" creating greater medical guardrails, eliminating genetic intersex issues with cloning, and not harshly treating gender dysphoria like other untreatable psychological disorders of the time. However, even during Rosella's time, less than 0.05% of people physically transitioned. Today an estimated “10% of cases” for children under 18 are using transitioning drugs. The reason for the difference is society’s sexual norms had changed allowing for greater freedom of sexual expression without bias, so many teens were able to resolve their gender dysphoria naturally without the need for transitioning.

Transitioning in Rosella’s time is known as complete anatomical gender reassignment (CAGR). This is where the human body undergoes a complete and total anatomical change from one sex to another without the use of hormones or drugs. It’s a complex surgical process involving the 3-D printing of new organs for transplant and grafting. The procedure results genetically in a person who is a genetic chimera. It has a high success rate but is irreversible because of the level of surgical interventions required and the stress the human body is placed under. All attempts to reverse this procedure have resulted in the patient's death because of heart attack or organ failure caused by surgical stress. During Rosella’s time, the reversal was banned in many nations.

The American political community declared summer as a time of hedonism to counteract the negative effects of the Great Melt. It replaced previous celebrations like LGBT+ celebrations. They did not label human sexuality in Rosella's time, and people could do what they wanted without judgement. Only certain Christian groups still clung to labels.
 
Success was found in various economic areas during the summers, which the wealthy in America embraced for spending on housing, entertainment, and leisure. Typically, adding nearly a full 1% to the GDP to the nation during that period.
 
Local hedonism parties and parades drew protests from Christian groups.
 
The 4th of July fell in the middle of the summer celebrations that had turned from patriotism to a violent protest, which was a major issue.
 
The Summers of Hedonism tested the USRM and Rosella's ability to protect Americans' right to assemble while stopping property destruction and other crimes.

While today we depend upon the use of chemical rockets to move materials and people into space. This is very expensive per ounce. To reduce this cost to a more reasonable point, we either need to control gravity or use what’s called a space elevator.
 
For Rosella’s world, the control of gravity became a reality but before this point, humanity only had one choice which was the construction of a space elevator. Without this step, humanity wouldn’t have been able to make that initial push into space in a way that made economic sense. Exploring ideas such as harvesting materials from asteroids or establishing a base on the moon.
 
The space debris accumulated during construction is a bigger hurdle for the elevator than the scientific challenge of finding ribbon materials. For this reason, prior to this project, we did a global initiative to clean up this debris from the orbital areas.
 
Part of this global initiative was rethinking how orbital materials ended up in orbit and lowering the debris footprint they created. Other than that, the bigger problem was gathering up all the particles, ranging from nanoparticles to whole spacecraft.
 
No one solution would solve the problem. Instead, variations of the following earlier ideas were implemented:

1. Active Debris Removal (ADR): ADR involves capturing or actively manipulating space debris to remove it from orbit. Methods being considered include robotic arms, nets, harpoons, grippers, ion beams, and lasers to capture or reposition debris.
2. Deorbiting: Satellites and spacecraft can be designed with built-in propulsion systems or additional thrusters to facilitate controlled reentry into Earth’s atmosphere. Intentional lowering of a satellite or rocket stage causes it to burn up upon reentry.
3. Space-based Lasers: Powerful lasers based on the ground or on other satellites could be used to target and vaporize selective smaller debris objects. The energy from the laser would cause the debris to heat up rapidly, resulting in a change in momentum and causing it to slow down. Over time, this technique could deorbit the debris by reducing its orbital velocity.
4. Electrodynamic Tethers: Electrodynamic tethers use long conductive wires to generate an electromagnetic force by interacting with the Earth’s magnetic field. The tethers can slow down the orbit of the spacecraft or debris, resulting in reentry and disposal.
5. Space Sweeper Satellites: Dedicated spacecraft, often referred to as “space sweepers,” could be deployed to collect space debris actively. These satellites would use onboard sensors and robotic systems to capture and store debris, either by physically grappling it or by using other techniques like deploying nets or electrostatic forces.
6. Aerodynamic Drag Enhancement: changing the shape of satellites and upper rocket stages to increase their surface area or adding deployable structures like sails can enhance the drag they experience in the upper atmosphere. This increased drag causes the object to lose altitude more quickly, resulting in eventual reentry and burn-up.
7. International Cooperation and Guidelines: Implementing stricter regulations and guidelines for satellite operators to deorbit their satellites at the end of their operational life can help prevent the accumulation of additional space debris. International collaboration is crucial for establishing standards and incentivizing responsible behavior in space activities.

 
Over several years, we removed enough space debris to allow the beginning of construction of the first space elevators. After controlling gravity, we dismantled the space elevators.

​A disagreement of the term “sexual embrace” from St. Thomas Aquinas’ Summa Theologiae dealing with sexual issues leads to the pastor of the Church of Eternal Love to separate from the Roman Catholic Church during Rosella’s time.
 
Pastor Richmond Shaw saw the term only to refer to the physical act of sex. Whereas the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in Rome had ruled that “touches and kisses” would also apply as per the Summa Theologiae II-II, 154, 4 assuming the couple is married, is in a state of grace, and being romantically frisky.
 
The Pastor kept the bi-monthly confessional and Eucharistic services. He followed this by a marriage retreat where couples then went to private rooms to have sex. The purpose was to be fruitful in their sexual acts. He billed the whole thing to counter the cloning culture that was gripping America and a way to return to being truly human.
 
The Pastor's adoption of denounced Romanian spiritualist Lina Macek's writings caused problems for the Midwest church. Lina Macek professed the risen Jesus was a zombie in her visions. This was representing to her the corruption of the Vatican and Papacy. Pastor Shaw tied this message back to his own parish’s struggle with Rome.
 
The pastor also sold “Jesus in a Can” (consecrated Eucharists stored in sealed cans) to Christian preppers to raise money which raised the ire of the local Catholic bishop who threatened excommunication for Pastor Shaw and his flock.
 
Eventually, the Church of Eternal Love grew enough to legally support several local and state politicians, which provided it with both oversight protections and community creditability.
 
There were rumors that some of its members belonged to both John Elliot’s Democratic National Militia and the Unit of Civil Enforcement. The Pastor denied such knowledge though public records showed large contributions.
